Short answer
Both raise pH, but soda ash supplies alkalinity alone while sodium metasilicate adds silicate activity — oil emulsification, anti-redeposition and a protective film on soft metals. Specify metasilicate where the formulation has to lift oily soils, keep them suspended, or protect aluminium and zinc. Soda ash remains the cheaper choice where the process needs bulk alkalinity and nothing else.
How Much Metasilicate Replaces Soda Ash
That answers which one. It does not answer how much. Substituting soda ash with metasilicate is not a one-for-one swap by weight: the two carry different alkali content per kilogram, and the pentahydrate grade holds a substantial share of its mass as water of crystallisation — which changes your dosage, your container count and your freight cost per tonne of active alkali.

Minimum order is 1 tonne. Below one full container we sell EXW — you arrange collection from the plant, which keeps small trial quantities viable without a consolidation charge from us. FOB Qingdao applies to full-container orders. Standard packing is 25 kg bags, and custom packing is available on request.
A 20-foot container takes 27 tonnes loaded loose, or about 22 tonnes palletised — palletising costs you roughly 18% of your payload. Where your receiving warehouse can break bulk by hand, loose loading in 25 kg bags gives the lower landed cost per tonne. We publish these terms because they change your cost model before price does.
